Making changes to groups
By default, any of the group participants can change the subject, icon, description or send messages. However, a group admin can change the group settings to allow only admins to edit the group info or send messages.Changing the group settings
To change the group settings for editing group info:
- Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
- Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap Menu > Group info.
- Tap Group settings > Edit group info.
- Choose to allow All participants or Only admins to edit the group info.
- Tap OK.
To change the group settings for sending messages:
- Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
- Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap Menu > Group info.
- Tap Group settings > Send messages.
- Choose to allow All participants or Only admins to send messages.
- Tap OK.
Changing the group subject
To change the subject:- Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
- Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap Menu > Group info.
- Tap Edit to the right of the group icon and subject.
- Enter a new subject, then tap OK.
- The subject limit is 25 characters.
- You can add emoji to your subject by tapping Emoji.
Changing the group icon
To change the icon:- Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
- Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap Menu > Group info.
- Tap the group icon > Edit.
- Choose to use your Gallery, Camera or Search Web for a new image or you can Remove icon.
Changing the group description
To change the description:- Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
- Alternatively, tap and hold the group in the CHATS tab. Then tap Menu > Group info.
- Tap the group description.
- Enter a new description, then tap OK.
Muting group notifications
You can mute group notifications for a specified period of time. You'll still receive messages sent to the group, but your phone won't vibrate or make noise when they're received. To mute group notifications:- Go to the group in WhatsApp, then tap the subject of the group.
- Tap Mute notifications.
- Select the length of time you'd like to mute notifications for.
- Optionally, uncheck Show notifications to stop notifications from being shown in your notifications screen.
- Tap OK.
